Third-hand smoke. A new term that describes the danger of smoking but all throughout the years we all experience it. The scent that you smell for your relatives including the place that they smoke from.

Smoking is dangerous to your health. Usually, that’s the disclaimer that you see on the packaging of cigarettes, posters, and commercial. Undoubtedly, smoking is still a socially acceptable thing that most of us indulge in.

Let’s admit it, even health professional also joined the craze. They say that they know the danger, but smoking calms there nerve for them to function.

Every medical book, social media post and health websites advise us about the dangers of smoking. Unfortunately, smoking is still rampant in our society.

To lessen the blow on the community some of them migrated to vapes which they advertise as lesser toxic than regular cigarettes.

There are few studies that could support this claim.

It is still early for us to conclude that vaping is healthy and it’s just a form of hobby.

Cigarettes reportedly have an average of 3000 to 4000 toxic chemical and  50 of them are carcinogen or substance that can cause cancer.

Third-hand Smoke

Third-hand Smoke occurs when the chemical residue of tobacco or cigarette smoke clings to the clothing of smokers, wall furniture carpet, cushions, hair, skin, and other materials after a cigarette is extinguished.

Nicotine residue will still soak on a smoker’s clothing and skin when they smoke outside. These toxic residues still follow smokers back indoors and get spread everywhere.

Tobacco toxins can persist on surface objects for weeks and even months after nicotine vapor has been absorbed.


Ventilating the room by a fan or opening the window will not get rid of the third-hand smoke.

Children are at risk of Third-hand smoke

Infants and children get a higher risk of getting the third-hand smoke. They have closer exposure to smoke deposit on furniture around the house. As they crawl and play around they tend to touch and swallow those dangerous chemicals.

Effects of third hand-Smoke

  1. Cognitive deficits among children.
  2. Studies show that your risk of getting Lung cancer will increase to 25% if you are living with someone who’s smoking.
  3. Increases risk of Asthma
  4. The residue of smoke will react to the chemicals and will form another carcinogen
  5. Damages and breaks human DNA
  6. Increases risk of other cancers

Third Vs. Second-Hand Smoke



This is smoke exhaled by cigarette smokers. It is involuntarily inhaled by others. Also known as passive smoking. Second-hand smoke occurs when tobacco smoke permeates any environment causing its inhalation by people within that environment.

Third-hand smoke harms people even after smoking stops. Learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones. Be vigilant and keep yourself away from danger. Education is the best tool to avoid these threats. No to THIRD-HAND SMOKE.
